
The Cobar Darts Association hosted their annual Cobar Darts Open event
with a field of 43 men and 22 ladies from NSW, Victoria and South Australia vying for over $5,000 in prizemoney.
Local player and NSW State Darts team member, Tony Brown, drew another local, Ryan Hogan, as his partner for the Y-Not Blind Drawn Doubles round on Friday night.
The pair outplayed Thomas Brown (Tamworth) and Kevin Thrupp (Bathurst) to take the winner’s prize.
In third and 4th place were Daniel Myer (Central Coast) and Keegan Doyle (Yass) along with Sydney pair, Natalie Hendley and Andrea Hendley (another State player).
Andrea finished as the Ladies Singles champion after she accounted for Gemma Spence in the final on Sunday.
Cobar player, Kylie Arnold, finished in the top four of the Ladies Singles competition.
Kylie made it to the third round and was knocked out by Andrea on her way to the final.
It was an all Broken Hill Men’s Singles final with Scott Edgecombe claiming the title after he accounted for Shane Kemp.
Tony Brown drew Edgecombe in the first round which Edgecombe narrowly won.
Other Cobar players in the Men’s Singles matches of note were Craig Jones, who was knocked out in the third round and Matthew Cohen was eliminated from the competition after the second round.
In the Men’s Doubles Championships matches decided on Saturday, Josh Townsend (Cootamundra) and Brady Lestrange (Young) finished as the champions after they accounted for Broken Hill pair Shane Kemp and Dane Schuster in the final.

Tony Brown and his Doubles partner Daniel Myer were also knocked out in the second round by runners-up Kemp and Schuster.
Port Pirie pair Karen Hilton and Kat Wratten claimed the Ladies Doubles crown after they accounted for Anne Cooley (Sydney) and Tania Walker (The Entrance) in the ladies final.
Cobar’s doubles team of Macee Brown and Amy Pagett were unlucky to draw Karen and Kat in their first round match and were eliminated from the competition.
A total of 48 180 throws were recorded in the Singles and Doubles games with 44 thrown by the men and four were recorded by the ladies.
Josh Townsend topped the tally with eight 180s, Shane Kemp had seven and Scott Edgecombe threw four over the two days of competition.
Andrea Hendley and Gemma Spence were among the four players on the ladies’ list to record 180 throws.
The men’s highest peg out was 125, thrown by Robbie Jephcott, Scott Edgecombe had 116 and Matt Cohen had the fifth highest peg out of 112.
Kylie Arnold’s throw of 72 made the list of the ladies’ highest peg outs with Gemma Spence (126, 112, 100, 95 and 90) and Andrea Hendley (110 and 86) dominating the results.
Scott Edgecombe recorded four more 180 throws during the Y-Not Blind Drawn Doubles match on Friday night while Cobar player, John-Wayne Josephson had the second highest peg out of the night with 110.
Daniel Myer recorded the highest with 112.
Plans are already in place for next year’s event with the Friday night Blind Drawn Doubles event to be re-named in honour of former Cobar player, Sid Fridd.
In the local competition games played last Wednesday night, RSL Minors finished with a narrow 5-4 win over Western Grumblebums.
Tony Brown, with throws of 180, 140 and 180, Dick Tulloh (140 and two 100s), Karl Saunders (2x 100s) and Deni Brown’s 100 and 131 (which was the ladies’ highest score of the week) helped the RSL Minors to their win.
Western Grumblebums’ high scorers included Kyle Loughran (137), John Wayne Josephson (121), Charlie Nelson (118) and Shane Josephson (100).
In the other matches played last week, Empire Reapers finished with a 6-3 victory over Golfie Looney Tunes and RSL 26ers accounted for RSL, also by a 6-3 margin.

The ladies highest peg out of the week was Kylie Arnold’s 62 while Dave Gardiner’s 90 was the highest for the men.
Tony Brown’s and Craig Youd’s 180 throws were the men’s highest score of the week.
In tonight’s games, Western Grumblebums will play Golfie Looney Tunes; RSL Minors come up against RSL; and RSL 26ers will take on the Empire Reapers.
