The Cobar Roosterettes opened their 2026 Castlereagh season with a nail biting 22-all draw against Warren at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.

The Roosterettes however are claiming it as a win following a review of video footage from the game.

An attempt at goal by Roosterettes’ Taylah Good, that was waved away by the touch judges, appears to have been a successful conversion which would have given Cobar a 24-22 win.

Coach Brianna Watson said they will put in a dispute with the Castlereagh League and see how it goes.

“It was a good first hit-out for us.

“We tested some new combinations that we can keep building on which is really exciting,” Brianna said.

The Roosterettes have welcomed a few new players to the squad this season including experienced player, Emeliza Ah Van and newbies Madison Knight and Halle Snudden.

Former Cobar representative player, Sarah Morley, has also returned to bolster the Cobar team this season.

Warren opened the scoring early in Saturday’s match with a try out wide.

Less than five minutes later Taylah Good levelled the scores when she slipped through to score Cobar’s first try next to the post.

Her attempted conversion was unsuccessful and the scores were level at 4-all.

The Cobar defenders were finding it difficult to remove the opposition’s tags and became frustrated as the Warren attackers were slipping through their fingers.

This led to multiple penalties for contact and forceful tags.

Once again the Warren attackers broke through and finished it with a converted try to take a 10-4 lead.

Kayla Hasson-Williams helped to level the scores shortly after when she made a break down the blind side and sprinted to the line to score for the Roosterettes.

Brianna converted to bring the score to 10-all.

The Roosterettes took the lead soon after.

Brianna executed a smooth draw and pass maneuver passing the ball to her winger Rhylee Patterson.

After Rhylee had drawn the outside defender, she passed back inside to Brianna who raced over to score near the posts making an easy conversion for herself.

Cobar led 16-10.

The Warren attackers again proved to be slippery and left three Cobar defenders in their wake to score which brought the scores to level again at 16-all.

Neve Carter put Cobar ahead soon after the re-start when she dived over out wide to score which gave Cobar a 20-16 advantage.

Warren put pressure on the Cobar line and pushed over to score a converted try which had them in front at 22-20.

Three minutes from full-time with the Roosterettes trailing by two points, they received a penalty 15 metres out from the try line and Brianna opted to take the kick.

She was cool under pressure, made the conversion and levelled the scores to 22-all which was the final score.

Cobar’s Players’ Player award was shared by Georgia Boland and Sosie Barton with Sosie also earning Best & Fairest three points.

Neve Carter collected two points and Georgia and Rori Urquhart received one B&F point each.

The competition has a general bye this week for Anzac Day. The Roosterettes will be at home again next week to Coolah.
