Every two minutes, someone needs the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) with 36,951 Australians flown each year by their expert aeromedical teams for medical treatment.
Since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service has been there for those living, working and traveling across Australia.
Whether it’s a life-threatening injury, a hospital transfer, to see a GP, Dentist or Wellbeing Clinician, the Flying Doctor provides the finest standard of care to every Australian who needs them.
State Member for Barwon Roy Butler has been lobbying the NSW Government for funding for the RFDS and said he’s grateful that the Government has responded with significant funding.
“The RFDS is a lifeline for many communities out west who don’t have a hospital or a local doctor.
“More is needed to keep this vital medical service in the sky,” Mr Butler said.
“At the end of this month, I’ll be riding a motorbike all the way from Sydney to Broken Hill, that’s about 1,300 kilometres, in convoy with the body of a Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) plane.
“We’ll also be travelling with some flares used to light remote airstrips as part of the Lighting the Way Flare Relay, which celebrates the 90th anniversary of the RFDS.
“Along the way, I’ll be stopping in small towns so locals can sign a corflute with messages of support and see what it’s like inside a real RFDS plane.
From Sydney and ride to Mudgee, Dubbo, Warren, Byrock and Bourke and is expected to arrive in Cobar next Thursday.
He plans to be at Drummond Park by Thursday mid afternoon.
“I’m hoping that plenty of locals will turn out to sign their names on the corflute and send messages of support to the Flying Doctors,” Mr Butler said.
He will head off on Friday morning and stop at Emmdale and Wilcannia before finishing his ride in Broken Hill and delivering the corflute which will be displayed as part of the RFDS’s 90th anniversary celebrations next month.
“If you’d like to support the trip, I’m inviting people to donate per kilometre—1c per km = $13, 5c per km = $65, 10c per km = $130.”
