The Cobar Roosters Under 18s team started off their 2026 Castlereagh Rugby League season with a big win in the group’s preseason Youth League knockout at Gulgong on Saturday.

The Bantam Roosters and the Cobar First Grade side both travelled to Gulgong on Saturday for the preseason knockout competition with the Under 18s bringing home the trophy after a 24-0 victory over Gilgandra in the final.

Playing in front of a good crowd at Billy Dunn Oval, the young Roosters had already accounted for Gilgandra in their first match,
22-6 and then went on to win their next match with Narromine, 12-0.

They lost their preliminary match with Coonabarabran 18-6 but had done enough to earn themselves a finals berth.

The Roosters were impressive, keeping their Gilgandra Panthers opposition scoreless to win 24-0 and take the trophy.

The Cobar First Grade side were knocked out in the semi finals when they lost to Dunedoo (the overall winners) 8-0 however the Roosters exacted some revenge when they beat reigning premiers, the Coolah Roos, 10-4 in their preliminary game.

The Dunedoo Swans outfit went through the First Grade knockout undefeated to claim the KO Shield, registering a narrow two-point win over an equally impressive Coonabarabran team, winning the final 12 points to 10.

The first round of the Castlereagh League competition will be played this Saturday with Cobar at home to Warren.
