Cobar darts player, Tony Brown, has for the 4th time, been selected as a member of the NSW Darts Representative Team.
Brown was selected for the 2026 men’s team at the NSW State Teams Trials in Foster last month and well and truly cemented his position in the state side a fortnight later with a second place finish in the Men’s Singles at the Great Lakes Open on March 1, once again in Foster.
Brown stormed into the semi finals at the Open with a three games to nil win in Round 1, another 3-0 victory in Round 2 and a 4-0 win in his Top 8 final.
He then won a tough semi final game, 5-4, which earned him a spot in the final with Orange’s Jessy Wiegold.
Wiegold also secured his spot in the final after a 5-4 close win of his semi which set the stage for a great final.
It proved to be a real thriller with Wiegold eventually finishing as the 6-4 victor.
Wiegold and Brown will have a few more opportunities to play each other before they team up to represent NSW at the 2026 Australian Darts Championships in July.
Brown has been playing well this year and said following a lot of practice, his confidence in his ability is high.
And after previously qualifying three times for the state team, Brown said he didn’t feel any pressure to make the team this year.
“This time I was more relaxed and backed myself,” Brown said.
And he plans to continue to play with that attitude and so far it’s paying off!
