The Cobar Bowling & Golf Club played host to the Cancer Council’s Longest Day 36 hole two person Ambrose event on Sunday which raises much needed funds for life saving cancer research.
Although numbers were a bit disappointing, the 12 teams that took part all slogged it out until the end.
While there were some ‘well seasoned’ golfers among the mix, it was the current young guns who had the stamina to play consistently well all day in the blustery conditions.
Rowdy Barton and Cohan Nicolson recorded a nett score of 122 to take the win ahead of another young team, Jaxon Burke and Jack Dunn, on 128 1/2 nett for the 36 holes.
Jed Noonan and Ben Tranter were half a shot back with a score of 129 nett for third place.
Noonan also won the Longest Drive prize on the 18th hole and Tranter was closest to the flag on the 3rd hole for the men.
Fay Hardwick and Wen Zhang finished 4th on 133 nett.
Sally Bannister won the ladies’ Nearest the Pin prize on the 8th hole and Zhang had the Longest Drive on the 9th hole.
A barbecue lunch was supplied by the club and cooked by the ever reliable Frank Singleton to ensure golfers were fuelled up ready to go again after the first 18 holes…full report in this week’s edition out now!
