The Castlereagh Cougars Opens team ended their Western Women’s Rugby League 2025 season on a high with a win over Lachlan in their Round 7 match on Saturday at Pioneer Oval in Parkes.

The Cougars ran in seven tries to two to beat Lachlan 34-12.

Among the Cougars’ try scorers were Cobar players Kayla Hasson, Neve Carter and Taylah Good.

Prior to kick off on Saturday, all of the Castlereagh players came together for a minute’s silence in remembrance of Ambie McMullen and Holly Clarke who were killed in the mine tragedy last week.

Players also wore black arm bands and a member of the Under 18s squad presented a speech in their honour.

“It was overwhelming, but a very special moment,” Opens captain Kayla Hasson told The Cobar Weekly.

In other Round 7 Western Women’s Rugby League games played on Saturday, the Cougars Under 14s were outclassed by Lachlan in their match going down 60-0 and the Castlereagh Under 16s also lost their match
60-0.

The Cougars Under 12s put on a good show in their uncontested match against Lachlan White. The Under 18s Cougars had to forfeit their match due to other commitments.
