Three Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad (CATS) members, Isaac Theakston, Molly Birch and Parker Cryer tested their endurance at a Backyard Ultra run on Saturday.

The GV Last Man Standing Backyard Ultra, held at Shepparton, Victoria, saw competitors of all skills run 6.7km every hour on the hour for as long as possible.

(The last one standing runs one additional lap and then it’s over, there’s no second place, you win, or you don’t finish.)

The Cobar trio entered under the CATS banner and used this run as preseason triathlon training.

The event started at noon on Saturday.

This was Isaac’s 3rd Backyard Ultra event and he had a goal to run for 24 hours which equals 100 miles or 161km.

Through pain, and a few gut and knee issues, he hit that mark and then dropped out.

It was Parker’s first event so he went in not knowing what he was getting into.

He went out on the 7th yard, due to hamstring and cramping issues, and had to call it quits at 41km.

Molly was running her second Backyard Ultra event and was aiming to beat her personal best of 11 yards, however she was forced to drop out after four yards after she succumbed to a knee injury.
