In the Castlereagh Ladies League Tag ‘Battle of the Birds’ elimination semi final on Sunday at Gulgong, the Baradine Magpies came out on top over the Cobar Roosterettes.

The Magpies, led by competition veteran, Maria Nagy, were too strong for the Roosterettes and walked away with a 30-10 win.

Roosterettes’ captain and co-coach Bianka Jacobson said it was a good game, played at a very fast pace.

“We defended a lot in the first half, and did well to contain the Baradine girls considering the score was only 14-0 at half time.

“When we got into our attacking half in the first half, we couldn’t seem to capitalise on our opportunities and convert them to points.”

She said the Roosterettes’ mindset however changed in the second half after playmaker Brianna Watson intercepted a pass which changed the momentum of the game.

“We persisted and never gave up and that showed with second half tries to Kayla Hasson and Taylah Good.”

Watson also landed one conversion.

“JD [co-coach John Dunn] and I are very proud of the girls’ effort this season.

“As a team and as individuals, we have grown so much.

“What the team has achieved this year, has put them in good a position for next year,” Jacobson said.

The loss has seen the Roosterettes now bow out of the competition.
