Junior league’s 2025 season draws to a close

Zara Shepherd streaked away in her Under 6s Mini League match on Sunday morning at Tom Knight Memorial Oval to score a couple of tries for her red team. She was a
standout in the game and earned her the Coaches Award.

Cobar Junior Rugby League hosted St John’s Maroon and St John’s Gold teams in their Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League Round 12 games on Saturday.

In their uncontested Under 10s game against St John’s Maroon, Maddox Best earned the Cobar Roosters’ Sportsmanship Award and Billy Dunn was named their Players’ Player.

In the Under 11s game, another uncontested match with St John’s Maroon, the Cobar Coach’s Award went to Indie Burke with Michael Rogers collecting their Players’ Player award.

The Under 12s came up against St John’s Gold with Kasalia Fakahua earning Cobar’s Players’ Player award and Bria-June Brookman won the Coach’s Award.

Cobar’s Under 16s were outclassed 70-10 by their St John’s Gold opposition.

Kai McCosker, in his 100th game for Cobar Junior Rugby League, scored a try and also landed the conversion with Corey Piggot also crossing for a try for Cobar.

Will Oborn earned the referee’s Best & Fairest points and also collected Cobar’s Players’ Player honour.

The Coach’s Award went to Corey Piggot.

This was the club’s last round of the season (and not last week as we incorrectly reported) and a number of the Under 16s players, who will move up to Under 18s next season, were farewelled.

They included Kai McCosker, Jackson Muldoon, Drew Barton, Tom Francisco, Jacob Chandler, Will Oborn, Corbin Colling and Ryan Mugugia.

Club president Graeme Barton commented that he had coached a number of these players since they were four.

It was also the last game in the mixed competition for Kasalia Fakahua and Bria-June Brookman as they are no longer able to play in mixed teams after Under 12s.

It was a glorious morning for the Minis competition at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Sunday.

Winning awards in the Under 8s competition were Ali Taylor, Jack Lowe, Ashton Ebsworth and Maddison Miller while in the Under 6s, the coaches awards went to speedster Zara Shepherd and tagging machine Jack Negfeldt.

The Under 8s and Under 6s competition concludes next month on Fathers Day.

And in the last game of the Little League Stars 10 week program,  Skylar Rendall collected the award.
