Roosterettes through to semi finals

Brianna Watson left the Narromine defenders in her wake as she charged up field in the League Tag game at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.

While the Cobar Roosterettes may not have won their final match of the Castlereagh League Tag competition at home to Narromine on Saturday, it was definitely one of their best games this season.

Up against the third placed team in the competition, Roosterettes captain and co-coach Bianka Jacobson said she was thrilled with her team’s much improved performance and, despite the 20-0 loss, the team is through to the semi finals.

Last time the two sides met in Round 9 in June, Narromine scored at will and finished with a crushing 50-0 victory.

However it was a totally different story in their Round 14 match at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday with the Roosterettes dominating possession and field placement for the first 22 minutes of the game to keep 3rd placed Narromine scoreless.

The visitors had a narrow 4-0 half time lead and the second half was played in much the same vein in first.

It was 15 minutes before the visitors scored their second try and they had to work hard to score another two more before the final siren.

Coach Jacobson contributes the team’s turn around to a midweek coaching session with rugby league coaching specialist Tim Brown.

“The girls picked up a lot of great tips that they were able to use in Saturday’s game,” Jacobson said.

The Roosterettes’ Players’ Player honour was shared by Brianna Watson and Rhylee Patterson with Watson, Bridgette Negfeldt and Sosie Barton earning Best & Fairest points.

The League Tag competition’s 5th position on the ladder was determined by points differential with Cobar claiming the finals spot ahead of Warren.
