The Cobar Roosterettes were up against tough opposition in the Coolah Flyers in their Round 10 Castlereagh Ladies League Tag game at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.
The visitors, who sit at the top of the competition table, put on a strong performance to outpoint the Cobar side 50-14.
Coolah’s Mackenzie Blackadder was a stand-out in the game.
She recorded a hattrick of tries in the first 20 minutes of the game and went on to finish with a big tally of five tries for the match.
Cobar’s defence was lacking, but in their defence, the Coolah players were very good at avoiding being tagged and the Flyers quickly posted 12 points before the Roosterettes could get themselves into the match on Saturday.
Kayla Hasson kept the Roosterettes in contention at 12-4 when she scored the first points for Cobar.
But with Molly Burgess also running in a first half hattrick of tries for the Flyers, the score had quickly blown out to 32-4 by the half time break.
Following the break, it looked like a different Roosterettes team who took to the field.
Their defence had tightened up and they started calling the shots.
Coolah struggled to gain good field position and it was almost seven minutes after the restart when the next try was scored—and that was by Cobar!
Taylah Good slipped past four defenders (including the Coolah fullback) to race away and score under the posts.
Brianna Watson converted and closed the margin to 32-10.
Coolah then dug deeper into their bag of tricks and shortly after opened their second half scoring account when Blackadder crossed for her 4th try.
Their No 7, Tori Mogg, kicked through and pounced on the ball to score and Blackadder crossed for her 5th try four minutes before fulltime.
But the Roosterettes hadn’t given up and Good crossed for her second try after Cobar received a penalty 10 metres out from the try line to bring the final margin back to 50-14.
Cobar were well served by Good, Hasson, and Watson along with Aisha Schofield, Rori Urquhart, Sosie Barton and Bridgette Negfeldt.
