The Cobar Roosterettes finished their 2017 regular Barwon Darling season unbeaten following their emphatic 32-8 win over the Brewarrina Googarettes at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.
The Roosterettes scored in their first set of six through representative player Lisa Travis which was followed up by two tries out wide by Bianka Jacobson.
Despite being up 14-4 at half time, the Roosterettes weren’t however especially happy with their first half performance.
The Roosterettes had to work hard in defence against the Googarettes.
Despite not having a lot of structured play and discipline, the Brewarrina girls had plenty of pace.
They made the most of any holes in the Roosterettes’ defence and hit them at full pace which made for difficult tagging for the Cobar team.
At the half time talk Travis called for her team mates not to rush and force their passes.
“We need to play our game. We’re a second half team and need to go back to our structured play,” Travis reminded them at the break.
“Be patient, there’s no need to panic,” she said.
Cobar re-started by putting pressure on the Brewarrina line which resulted in a try for their captain Zoë Harland.
Brianna Watson’s conversion attempt was waved away.
After almost sprinting in a near length of the field try in the first half (she was caught by some brilliant Brewarrina cover defence just inches from the line), Laura Ah-See outran her opposition to score a second half long range try which put the Roosterettes ahead 22-4.
The Googarettes followed up shortly after with an unconverted try.
Jacobson then touched down out wide for her third try of the match and Ah-See crossed for her second in the dying stages of the game.
Harland’s final attempt at goal was successful and the Roosterettes finished with a well deserved 32-8 win.
Best and fairest points for the Roosterettes went to Kasey Egan who gained plenty of metres in attack, Jacobson and Ah-See.
The Roosterettes will play the Walgett Dragonettes this Sunday at Brewarrina with the winner to head straight to the grand final.
