Cobar Business Association’s Christmas Street Parade on Friday night has been labelled by locals as Cobar’s best parade ever!
At an estimated 1.5km in length, with more than 50 vehicles and approximately 240 people on floats, in vehicles and on foot, we’d have to agree that it was indeed Cobar’s best street parade ever!
Parade organiser Demi Smith said there had been a great response from the community this year with six emergency service groups, nine businesses and five community groups all taking part.
Santa once again had the honour of leading the parade on the Fire & Rescue NSW Cobar Station 256’s restored Garford Pumper fire engine. The ‘main man’ was escorted by a wide variety of floats and vehicles including mine vehicles, various council plant (including the garbage truck), Ken Dunne’s 1907 Kiblinger Motor Buggy, a fleet of emergency service vehicles, a troupe of Chinese Lunar Lions, an assembly of Australia Post delivery vans, a Santa doing circle work on a ride-on lawn mower and Sullivan’s groovy Grinch dancing his way down the street, just to name a few.
MAC/CSA Mine’s loader (decorated and driven by the GM) and Council’s fully decked out Christmas grader tied for Best Float. Cobar Junior Rugby League Club won the ‘Margaret’s Choice’ trophy as the best community spirit entry.
The crowd was entertained by the Lunar Lions acrobats, along with local singers, dancers and ukulele players.
