Twelve Cobar golfers travelled to Nelson Bay last week to compete in the week-long Gutfull Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the golfing calendar.

Cobar golfers have been very successful at this tournament over the years and this year it was a former Cobar player, Chris Gilbert, who won at his first attempt.

Gilbert had 154 stableford points for the week with Daryn Lord second (153) after picking up the wooden spoon last year.

Third place went to Gilgandra’s Graeme ‘Mouse’ Holland (151) and last year’s winner, Jay Egan, came fourth (149).

Cobar’s Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence became the talk of Nelson Bay when he sank a hole-in-one on the 4th hole of the difficult Horizons Golf Club. (This was a 34 year milestone for the Gutfull Cup, which commenced in 1990, as a hole-in-one has never been one recorded before).

The Rippers (Lord, Craig ‘Porky’ Dillon, Bian Smith and Bob Dwyer from Gilgandra) won the Liv Golf competition with 586 stableford points, just one point in front of the Fireballs…Full report in this week’s edition of The Cobar Weekly.
