New junior touch comp gets underway at Ward Oval

The 9-12 years Blue team were big 12-1 winners in their first round match last week.

Pink finished as big 12-5 winners over Yellow in the opening round of the new
13-16 years Junior Touch competition on Thursday at Ward Oval.

Ethan McLeod led the scoring for Pink with three tries with team mates Sosie Barton (2), Evan Wilson, Maddison Jeffery and Skyla Fairfull adding the extras.

Yellow’s tries came from Josh Francisco (3) and Kai McCosker (2).

Rhylee Jeffery, Rowdy Barton and Ella Oborn collected Best & Fairest points.

In the other 13-16 years game, Blue Bulls had a close 9-6 win over the Green Machine.

Jaxon Burke led the Blue Bulls to a win scoring three tries with team mates Mason King (2) and Rhylee Patterson (2) their other scorers.

Rhylee, Mason and Alora Deppeler shared in the referee’s B&F points.

In the 9-12 years age group, a one-sided match was played between Blue and Yellow with Blue finishing with a big 12-1 win.

Tommy George was hard to catch scoring five tries in the match with Taj Goonrey (2), Mark McBride (2), Indie Burke and Harlym Curtis responsible for their other tries. Thomas Knight was Yellow’s lone try scorer.

B&F points went to Sonny Stephens, George Wainiqolo and Ashlee Compton.

In the other 9-12s game, The Orangatangs finished as 9-4 winners over Red Cherries.

Hugo Josephson had a massive haul of six tries with Josh Gillette adding two and Judd Josephson also touched down for a try.

Red Cherries’ points came from Alfie Toomey (2), Cooper Trudgett and Corey Cleary.

B&F points went to Mindy McCosker, Corey Cleary and Hallie Deppeler.
