Slightly chilly conditions brought out 15 shooters on Sunday for the Beryl Jones Memorial Trophy at the Cobar Clay Target Club.

Skeet is always the first event for the Beryl Jones Memorial Day, with all shooters testing their skills and for some it was a new element of clay target shooting.

Bryan Manns and Robert Thompson showed their superior skills shooting scores of 41/50.

Three down-the-line events were then held.

In the 25 Target Double Barrel event, there was a tie in AA Grade between Manns and Peter Hosie after both had possibles of 25/25.

A Grade was won by Brad Kendrick with 23/25; B Grade was taken out by Darcy Manns with a perfect score of 25/25 and C Grade’s winner was Garry Jones with 24/25.

The 25 Target Single Barrel winners were: AA Grade—Thompson 25/25; A Grade— Kendrick 24/25; B Grade—Aiden Barraclough 22/25; and C Grade—Jones 22/25.

The Beryl Jones 30 Target Handicap event winner was Jim Manns with 28/30.

Four shooters were tied for second place with Thompson, Kendrick, Kirk Grogan and Matt Harland all finishing with 27/30.

Jones, Barraclough and Darcy Manns were next best with 26/30.

To help fight off the chilly conditions, a very enjoyable afternoon tea was provided by the Jones family.

Shooters are now polishing their skills in readiness for the Cobar club’s annual Golden Clay Target event next month.—contributed
