Playing catch up

Brennah Aumua scored the first of the Roosterettes’ five tries in what was a fairly even Ladies League Tag game for most of the match before Gulgong raced away to record a 42-24 win.

The Cobar Roosterettes were forced to play catch up footy in their 42-24 loss to Gulgong in their Castlereagh Ladies League Tag match at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.

Gulgong got out to an early 10-0 lead before Cobar scored their first points through an opportunist try by the Roosterettes’ best on field, Brennah Aumua.

Aumua picked up a loose ball and scampered 20 metres untouched to score under the posts which made for a simple conversion for captain/coach Brianna Watson.

Gulgong re-gathered and scored again before Cobar hit back with a try to Bridgette Negfeldt who snuck through the scrambling Gulgong defence to touch down for the first of her two tries for the Roosterettes.

It then became a tit-for-tat match when Gulgong scored and Watson replied with her own try.

Her successful conversion closed the margin to just four points at half time, 20-16.

Gulgong scored soon after the re-start and in reply Kayla Hasson crossed for Cobar.

With two Cobar players in the sinbin, Gulgong scored two consecutive tries before Negfeldt crossed for her second try to bring the margin back to 36-24.

Gulgong’s converted try right on the full time siren blew the final score out to 42-24.

Aumua, Bianka Jacobson and Negfeldt shared Cobar’s Best & Fairest points.
