The Cobar Roosterettes came up against the undefeated Coolah Flyers in their Round 4 Castlereagh League Tag match on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.
And while the visitors did keep their unbeaten record intact, the Flyers said the match against Cobar had been a real “reality check” for them.
It was a tough first half for the Cobar side and they struggled to contain the “very dodgy” Coolah outfit.
Brooklyn Blackadder was outstanding for the Flyers scoring four tries in the match.
As the half time break loomed, the Roosterettes were trailing 22-0.
Attacking the Coolah line, Cobar’s captain/coach Brianna Watson sent a well timed pass to Bridgette Negfeldt who raced over to score their first points. Watson’s conversion narrowed the gap to 22-6 at half time.
Coolah looked to continue the second half of the match in the same vein and scored again just after the restart.
Watson made the most of a penalty 15 metres out and weaved her way to the line to score and her successful conversion brought the margin back to 14 points.
Blackadder then crossed for her 4th try to push the margin back out to 32-12.
The momentum in the game then shifted as Watson streaked through a maze of defenders to score under the posts and make for a simple conversion. The Flyers were unprepared for the Roosterettes fight back and they started making a few errors.
Kayla Hasson broke the line to score in the final minutes to bring the final score to 32-22.
Watson earned the Players’ Player honour and Best & Fairest three points. Bianka Jacobson collected two points and Negfeldt one.
