The Pink Galahs (13-16 years) and Blue Smurfs (9-12 years) were the winners of their respective Junior Touch grand final games on Thursday at Ward Oval.
Pink Galahs dominated their match with Pretty Poisonz to win 8-3 while the Blue Smurfs won their title in tough 4-3 battle with the Bumblebees.
There was some sibling rivalry in both games with the Watt and Patterson sisters (Holly and Lacey Watt and Rhylee and Zara Patterson) facing off against each other in opposing teams in the 13-16 years game.
Rori Urquhart dominated the scoring running in three tries (worth six points as female points are worth double) to help Pink Galahs to their win.
Josh Francisco scored their other two tries.
Pretty Poisonz’s three points came from a try each to Sosie Barton (worth two points) and Ryder Anderson.
Pink Galahs’ Lachie Brookman was named Player of the Grand Final.
The 9-12 years juniors game between Blue Smurfs and Bumblebees was a tit-for-tat thriller with the scores tied at 1-all at half time.
There was also some more sibling competition in this match with Holly Watt and William Tiffen’s Blue Smurfs’ side getting the better of Billy Watt and Lucy Tiffen’s Bumblebees team.
A try by Player of the Grand Final, Alfie Toomey, for the Blue Smurfs along with a try each to Bria-June Brookman and Tom Preisig helped the Smurfs to their close win.
Bumblebees’ points came from a try each to Austin Kane and Jessica Rogers.
End of season presentations followed the matches.
The Best & Fairest (B&F) players in the 13-16 years division were Aiden Swan (Yella) and Ella Oborn (Blueberries) while the top try scorers were Jaxon Burke and Rhylee Patterson.
Both of the top try scorers were from the Pretty Poisonz team.
B&F players of the season in the 9-12 years division were Henry Geppert (Hounds) and Kasalia Fakahua (Red Roosters) while Eligh Ritter (Red Roosters) and Holly Watt (Blue Smurfs) were the season’s leading try scorers in their division.
