Cobar’s Gordon Hill has been named as a finalist in the 2017 Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards.
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries congratulated Mr Hill on his nomination which was announced last week at NSW Parliament.
Mr Hill is one of 24 emergency services workers or volunteers to be shortlisted for this year’s awards and one of four in their category.
“Gordon is a local hero who has given 45 years of service to the NSW Rural Fire Service and is exceptionally deserving of this recognition,” Mr Humphries said.
“Our local emergency services personnel and volunteers selflessly respond to all manner of emergencies and I’m very proud that Gordon has been praised on a state stage for his efforts.”
On behalf of Cobar and the Barwon electorate, Mr Humphries praised Mr Hill for his dedication and commitment to the community and wished him all the best for the awards.
Finalists come from the following emergency services: Fire & Rescue NSW; Marine Rescue NSW; NSW Ambulance; NSW Rural Fire Service; NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Volunteer Rescue Association.
Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant said the awards celebrate the outstanding contribution of emergency services workers and volunteers who tirelessly work to ensure the safety of others in times of disaster and devastation.
“We should never take for granted the work our emergency services staff and volunteers do and it’s important to acknowledge the unsung heroes who have gone above and beyond,” Mr Grant said.
“There is almost 500 years of combined service from this year’s finalists from all corners of the state and I thank them all for their exemplary service, sacrifice and spirit to their local community.”
The winners of each service will be announced at an awards presentation dinner in Bankstown in August, along with awards for both paid and volunteer emergency service officers of the year.
