It’s hair today and gone tomorrow

Cobar High School is taking part in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation (an activity organised by the school’s Student Representative Council). Students and staff members Isabella Degn, Thomas Plater, Malcolm Gillette and Amie Hill, pictured above from left (along with Jayden Morris absent from the photo), have volunteered to shave or cut their hair. At the time of going to print, the school had raised $2,411 of their $2,500 goal. As an incentive to exceed that, Colby Lawrence will shave off his beard if they raise $4,000; Sarah Nicholson will cut her long locks if they make it to $5,000; and Andrew Coffey will shave his head and his beard if the tally tips over $5,000! Statistics show that 16 people every day in Australia lose their life to blood cancer. A total of 53 people a day are diagnosed with this disease with a large percentage being between the age of 0-14 years. Amie and
possibly Sarah will be donating their hair to Wigs4Kids to be recycled as a child’s wig for children with cancer. The volunteers will go under the razor and scissors tomorrow at the school. More information can be found at leukaemiafoundation.org.au
