Cobar Shire Council imposed Level 1 water restrictions on January 12 following the outbreak of Blue-green algae in the Bogan River and Cobar Shire Council’s weir pool at Nyngan.
Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko said the condition of the water in the Bogan River and weir pool had “improved dramatically”.
“The extra bit of rain we had last month and the rain we’ve just received yesterday will ensure our storages are replenished,” Mr Vlatko told The Cobar Weekly yesterday.
“With most residents doing the right thing and adhering to the restrictions, it helped us to cut down on our water usage while we were working to fix the problem.
“There were a few however who ignored the restrictions or didn’t seem to understand that there were restrictions in place,” he said.
“Council appreciates all those who did make an effort to conserve water where they could.
“It really did make a difference.”
Mr Vlatko said he hoped we would continue to get good rain in the coming months.
He said if however we don’t and our water storages get low again, he said council would have no choice but to re-introduce water restrictions.
“I hope if the need arises that all residents will work with us to ensure the preservation of our water resources,” Mr Vlatko said
