Cobar VIEW Club met at the Empire Hotel for their monthly meeting last Tuesday with many members supporting the lunch.
President Kate Winders welcomed members and guests to the monthly meeting of Cobar VIEW of Australia, an integral part of the Smith Family.
Membership badges recognising 30 years of membership were presented to Jean Hyde and June Harper by Mrs Winders.
Mrs Winders was the guest speaker at the meeting and told the group about her recent trip to Gallipoli for the ANZAC Day 100 year celebrations which she enjoyed.
She was fortunate enough to win a place in the ballot to travel to the actual battle fields.
Mrs Winders was able to join an organised Mat McLachlan Battle Fields tour, consisting of nine nights.
On their second day they visited the famous Blue Mosque, and the Hippodrome (a third century Roman racetrack), also the amazing Basilica Cistern built in the sixth century to supply Constantinople with water.
Other tours included Lone Pine, ANZAC Cove, Helles and Suvia and Ancient Troy.
They camped out the night before the dawn service, which Mrs Winders shared with a crowd of 12,500 and said it was an amazing and emotional dawn service.
Mrs Winders took with her a plaque from the Cobar community and a book from the High School which were donated as part of the University Australian display.
In general business discussion at the meeting members discussed plans for a Mary Kay party luncheon later in the year, also a spring Garden party in September.
The monthly raffle was won by Kaye Saddler and the lucky door prize was won by Enid English.—contributed
