right and sunny conditions brought out 23 shooters on Sunday for the Beryl Jones Memorial Trophy shoot at the Cobar Clay Target Club, with a number of visitors among the contenders.
The day started with two Down The Line events which introduced some shooters to a new element of target shooting.
In the 25 Target Double Barrel event, there was a tie in AA Grade with both Robert Thompson and Bryan Manns finishing with a perfect score of 25/25.
There was also a tie in A Grade with Matt Harland and Mark Kolstad both dropping one shot to finish with 24/25 each. A score of 24/25 also won Ross Morris the B Grade title and Doug Osborne the C Grade event.
James Manns claimed the win in AA Grade in the 25 Target Point Score event with a possible (perfect score of 75/75).
Harland won A Grade outright with 71/75 while it was a four-way tie in B Grade between Darren Reidy, Ross Morris, Victor Papierniak and John Martin, who all shot 71/75.
Osborne again was the C Grade winner with a score of 65/75.
Thompson, with 24/25, was the AA Grade winner in the first of the three afternoon events, the 25 Target Single Barrel.
Harland won A Grade with 22/25, B Grade’s winner was Reidy (24/25) and Jim Manns (22/25) was the C Grade winner.
Tony Polack finished as the winner of the feature event of the day, the Beryl Jones 30 Target Handicap. After a closely contested shoot-off, Polack won with 31/31 with Dick Tulloh the runner-up with 29/31.
Third place went to Peter Hosie with 27/30.
The Front Marker was Jim Manns with 22/25.
In the final event, the 10 Pair Double Rise, Manns finished as the AA Grade winner with a score of 19/20. (There were no competitors for A Grade in this event.) B Grade finished in a tie for Reidy and Brad Kendrick, both with 17/20, and Osborne also had a score of 17/20 to win C Grade.
