The Cobar Roosters team has claimed the Copper City Tyre Service Team Challenge Cup for 2023 after they finished closest to their nominated time at the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s (CATS) handicapped triathlon event on Sunday.
The Cobar Senior Rugby League Roosters team of Tia Turner, Neve Carter and Thomas Plater, completed the 300m swim, 10km ride and 2km run in 47 minutes and 13 seconds (which was just 47 seconds off their nominated time of 48 minutes) to collect the cash prize of $250 for their club.
They narrowly beat the Triathlon Club team of Axel Fairfull and Trudy Griffiths, who were 48 seconds off their time of 34 mins (33.12), and which was the fastest time for the day.
All of the 11 teams and four individuals who took part on Sunday morning finished under their nominated times, including the Junior League No 2 team of Josh Gillette, Aiden Hyland and Nixon Small) who finished a whopping 16 and a half minutes quicker than their nominated time.
The field included nine new competitors (whose registration fees, along with the event prize money, were covered by event sponsor, Chris Deighton from Copper City Tyre Service).
Club president Greg McKervey was pleased with the day’s turnout which included two teams from the Roosters club, three teams representing Cobar Junior Soccer, two Junior League teams, two swimming club teams, Little A’s and the CATS.
McKervey said he hopes to see them all back competing at next month’s triathlon in a team or as an individual.
