Cobar High School (CHS) vice captain Sophie Clark has been selected to join the NSW state-wide Rural Youth Ambassador Program for 2022.
The 16 year old was selected among a group of 20 students from across rural and remote NSW to join the program developed by the Country Education Partnership (CEP) in coordination with Aurora College.
CHS teacher and Student Representative Council (SRC) coordinator Alex Brown, said the ambassador program aims to provide young people in rural communities with opportunities to develop and strengthen their leadership skills.
“Sophie will participate in the development and implementation of an identified project with the focus aimed at enhancing rural and remote young peoples’ aspirations,” Mrs Brown said.
“The students participate in three face-to-face forums in Sydney and regional centers over the course of the year.
“Throughout these forums, the Rural Youth Ambassadors will undertake a range of conver-sations focused on rural and remote life and learning, utilising a solutions focused approach to address the challenges they identify.
“They will present to senior education staff, meet with the Minister for Education, meet with philanthropic organisations and key stake-holder groups, as well as present at education workshops, forums and conferences.”
Mrs Brown said by participating in the pro-gram Sophie will develop more confidence in her personal abilities, leadership and network-ing skills as well as meeting like-minded stu-dents her own age.
She’ll get to take part in a range of experienc-es that could lead to more opportunities that could help to support more young people living in remote towns such as Cobar.
“Sophie is a dedicated young leader, and we are excited she has been selected to participate in this fantastic opportunity,” Mrs Brown said.
