Four members of the Cobar Bowman Club attended the 2016 Australian Bowhunters Association National Safari held at the Mallee Sunset Field Archers Club at Red Cliffs, Mildura over the Easter long weekend.
All four members competed very successfully, each bringing home medals from one or both of their events.
Each competitor competes in two types of events, one involves shooting at coloured vinyl prints (ABA) over two days (four rounds) and the other is shooting at 3D targets over the next two days (also four rounds).
This event is held annually and attracts some of the best archers in the country.
Successful competitors are those that can shoot consistently and accurately over the four day period.
Junior club member James Mitchell shot extremely well, placing first in the ABA Bowhunter Unlimited C Grade event and second in the 3D Bowhunter Unlimited B Grade.
Jason Mitchell placed third in the ABA Men’s Bowhunter Unlimited B Grade and was selected as a member of the Northern Branch Team which placed fourth in both the ABA and 3D events.
Dick Tulloh placed first in the 3D Men’s Bowhunter Recurve C Grade and fourth in the ABA Men’s Bowhunter Recurve B Grade.
Peter Rogers placed first in the ABA Men’s Historical Bow event and was second in the 3D Traditional Peg Men’s Historical Bow class.
The local archery club holds shoots every fortnight and encourages any interested member of the public to go along and try out the sport.—contributed
