Cobar Junior Rugby players (and would-be players) picked up a range of skills at a Western Plains Rugby juniors development day at Ailsa Fitzsimmons Memorial Oval on Saturday.
The two hour skills session was conducted by NSW Rugby Development Officer Mark Pitts, with assistance from Cobar Rugby Club committee members.
Players aged 5-13 years took part in a number of attacking and defending drills and learnt basic catch and pass techniques.
Pitts showed the juniors how to track a player when defending and make an effective tackle along with how to draw and hold a defender in attack.
They also learnt about ball presentation when tackled and how to contest over the ball during the two hour session.
“We’re trying to build the junior ranks and get more exposure for the game,” Pitts told The Cobar Weekly.
He said the current Rugby Championships and the upcoming World Cup were a good opportunity for junior players to get excited about the game.
