Museum cleared out for renovations

The Great Cobar Heritage Centre staff (Conor McMullen, Kay Stingemore, Demi Smith and John Collins) were this week in the final stages of clearing out the museum in readiness for its major renovation works. The decanting process began back in March with
Council’s tourism manger Demi Smith estimating they’ve used 3km of foam wrap and 250 archive boxes to pack away most of the
precious contents of the museum (and that doesn’t count all the large items that didn’t fit in boxes). She said the removalists have been in twice, a crane has helped to move some larger items and council depot staff have made numerous trips to help move the 150 years of history off site where it will be kept in safe storage until the renovation work is complete, which is expected to be about 12 months.
