Seven games contested as new soccer season starts

The Spurs (Blue) and Rangers (Green) teams (pictured above) played their first match on Saturday morning in Cobar Junior Soccer Club’s new Seniors division. Spurs finished with a big 8-2 win.

Eager players bounded onto the fields at Ward Oval on Saturday morning ready for the start of a new Cobar Junior Soccer Club competition.

Minis (5-7 years), Mids (8-11 years), a new Seniors (12-15 years) division and also Opens (16+ years) games were contested.

In the Minis competition, the opening round match between the Raging Rhinos and the Cornish Dragons was a close one with the Cornish Dragons eventually winning 4-3.

Jason Doherty was responsible for two goals for his Dragons team and their other points came from the boots of Rikki Williams and Alfie Hill.

In reply Jack Joss (2) and Charlotte Cronin scored for the Rhinos.

Sky Strikers beat Orange Rovers 4-2 in their match with Mason Hill and Nate Sullivan kicking two goals each for Sky Strikers.

Cooper Colling netted both the goals for his Orange Rovers team.

Pitch Pirates had a 3-nil win over Purple Wanderers with Ali Taylor responsible for all three of Pitch Pirates points.

In the Mids competition, the match between Black Knights and Redbacks finished in a
2-all draw with Edwin Palma and Darcy Geppert scoring for Black Knights while Jack Geppert and Jack Preisig netted a goal each for Redbacks.

Cooper Suridge scored eight goals for the Polar Bears in their 9-2 win over Bengal Tigers in their Mids game. Davey Mackah added the other point to their total.

Tom Geppert scored both goals for his Bengal Tigers team.

In the Seniors division, Spurs had it all over Rangers to finish with an 8-2 win.

Edwin Palma (3), Charles Mamhunze (2), Mark McBride (2) and Isla McKervey were responsible for Spurs’ goals while Jospeh Theakston kicked both goals for Rangers.

The Opens match between Mill Rats and Rock Apes was a high scoring affair
