Perfect golf conditions didn’t last

Last Wednesday couldn’t have been a more perfect day for playing golf with beautiful sunshine and a lovely 23 degrees.

If only it had stayed like for the weekend!

Karen Walsh had a great game on sunny Wednesday winning the Stableford with 38 points from the field of 16 ladies.

Sue Phillips was next on 37 points followed by Sally Bannister (35), Fran Samios and Di Greer (33 each), Geraldine Francisco (32) and Jannine Wilkin with 31 points.

The Nearest the Pin competition winners on the 15th hole were Geraldine Francisco for A Grade, Daphne Cross in B Grade and Joy Josephson for C Grade.

The weather took a turn for the worse on Saturday with 14 players contesting the Par event in very cold conditions.

Fay Hardwick came in with +2 for the win while runner-up, Geraldine Francisco had +1.

Narelle Kriz posted -1, Barb Barklimore -2 and Sue Phillips finished the day with -4.

The Nearest the Pin prizes on the 3rd hole were won by Fay Hardwick, Pam Sikora and Sue Phillips in their respective A, B and C grades.

Even with the icy cold conditions on Sunday, 24 very keen golfers were out on the course for the Foursomes Club Championships over 27 holes. Many ladies however were a little reluctant to venture back out from the warm clubhouse after stopping for lunch after the first 18 holes.

The 2020 winners were Janet Place and Jenny Stephenson having a scratch score of 131.

The runners-up were Chrissy Gilligan and Wan Sipatsa with 136.

The Net winners were the mother and daughter combination, Serena and Jody Fraser, who had a brilliant last nine holes to post a score of 114¼ net.

If time would only allow Jody to play more golf she would be an A Grade contender, with a powerful swing and solid
putting in atrocious conditions, she showed up many a golfer on Sunday.

The Net runners-up were Angela Fryer and Daphne Cross, only one shot behind the Frasers with 115¼.

Nearest the Pin winners were Janet Place and Jenny Stephenson (2), Wan Sipatsa and Chrissy Gilligan (2) while Sue Phillips and Fran Samios collected one.

Today is a Par game and on Saturday the Bannister family are sponsoring their annual Stableford day which is always a big day on the course and afterwards it’s an even bigger night at the ‘19th’.

July’s Trophy Day will be contested on Sunday as a Stroke event.—T’d Off
