Oaks Day outing

Cobar VIEW Club ladies experienced the hospitality of Cobar Bowing & Golf Club on Thursday for their Oaks Day outing, an annual fundraiser for the Smith Family Charity Learning for Life Student program, which VIEW supports.

Amusing anecdotes and racing jokes together with the traditional “Horsey” quiz kept everyone entertained. The inclusion of a trifecta ticket was an added treat, although no one came up with the three lucky horses.

Several lucky door prizes were claimed throughout the activities and the amazing raffle prizes were won by Denise Kosef and Marie Black.

Eva Halliger looked stunning in white and was first past the post in the Best Outfit Stakes with Enid English a close second in spring florals.

Nell Merritt claimed the Best Hat, even though it may not have passed the safety gear check! Lillian Simpson stormed home with her colour coordinated fascinator and footwear with Kate Winders a short hoof behind in the Sandals Stakes.

It was slow going in the Gents Gallop with only two starters. Frank Difilippo won by a margin from Carl Walsh and it all came down to the footwear—Frank had a better farrier!

As with all good racing events, the catering committee had an outstanding win with a superb cold buffett and dessert.

Cobar VIEW ladies appreciate the contribution and support of the Golfie management and staff together with raceday sponsor Anni’s Arts & Crafts towards the success of the day, and look forward to Oaks Day 2024.—contributed
