New welcome for visitors from the west

For a number of years a big ‘COBAR’ sign on the slag dump behind the museum has been welcoming visitors to town from the east. Now another big ‘COBAR’ sign has been erected just past the caravan park on the Barrier Highway to welcome visitors from the west. The letters were constructed by Cobar High School students as part of a collaboration project with Cobar Shire Council.
Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko praised Cobar High School students and principal Shane Carter for their innovation of the sign and their commitment to the process. “It was an idea that came from the school and was built by the school,” Mr Vlatko said. “It’s been a long process but it’s good to be able to recognise the talents of our students.” Council staff erected the signs last week and Council will now create gardens around the signs to finish off the project.
