With the tourism industry in Cobar currently thriving, staff at The Great Cobar Museum and Visitor Information Centre now have a host of new tourism tools at their disposal.
The Museum has recently taken delivery of Kidman Way and Cobar Shire brochures, new town maps, Top 10 attractions maps, an art trail map, The Pub Route books, a Museum information map and have also had some new signage installed.
They can now also offer visitors an audio tour via a QR code which adds to the Heritage Walk experience.
Tourism manager Demi Smith said they have already handed out approximately 1,600 brochures to visitors who have called in to the information centre.
Demi said as it’s been a few years since their brochures have been updated, and the new ones contain a lot of new information.
“There’s an Acknowledgement to Country, ‘Be outback ready with travel awareness’ information, photos and information of our new attractions including the museum upgrade, the Cobar Sound Chapel, the Cobar Miners Memorial, the Iron Ring and the Art Trail.
“There’s also updated information about our villages – Nymagee, Mount Hope, Euabalong and Canbelego – and more about local Farm Stays and accommodation,” Demi said.
The new brochures are eye-catching with beautiful images from The Great Cobar Museum Collection, Oh Shoot Photography (Samantha Smith), Bush Media, Gidgee Media, Scott Stewart and Backbone Productions.
On the back of an updated town map are Cobar’s Top 10 attractions with The Great Cobar Museum coming in at No 1.
“Our Top 10 are based on general feedback from tourists, most visited sites and various statistics that we gather,” Demi said.
Other top attractions include: Fort Bourke Hill Lookout, the Mining Heritage Park, Miners Memorial, Mount Grenfell Historic Site, Cobar Sound Chapel, The COBAR sign, the Big Beer Can, the Federation Walk and Cobar Art Trail.
“We’re now seeing more and more families (young couples and children) visiting but our main demographic is still the Grey Nomads or as some like to call themselves, WOWs, Wallets on Wheels.”
