MAC Copper donates $100,000 to Council museum project

Cobar Shire Council general manager Peter Vlatko was pleased to accept a $100,000 donation from MAC Copper CEO Mick McMullen on Thursdayith the CSA Mine playing a big part of Cobar’s 155 years mining history, MAC Copper was keen to support the construction of an underground mining experience at the Great Cobar Museum.

MAC CEO Mick McMullen was in town last week and handed over a $100,000 donation to Cobar Shire Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko to help with the construction of the new Underground Mining Experience.

Along with MAC Copper’s contribution and a contribution from Council, the Museum’s Coach House and Underground Mining Experience project has been funded through two NSW Government programs ($2,126,400 from the Regional Tourism and Activation Fund and $1,395,000 from Resources for Regions Round 8).

The Regional Tourism Activation Fund aims to support the development of high impact tourism infrastructure projects that increase visitation, expenditure and extend length of stay for visitors to regional NSW.

Mr McMullen said CSA valued the great relationship it had with Cobar Shire Council and the town.

“We’ve always believed it was important to invest in the local community,” Mr McMullen said.

“This town was founded on mining and we’re a big part of that.

“It’s important to showcase mining and this is a great project,” he said.

In addition to their $100,000 sponsorship of the project, MAC Copper has also contributed underground video footage taken at the CSA Mine which will be used in the museum’s underground mining experience.

“It gives people a true indication of what it’s actually like to go underground,” Mr McMullen said.

Mr Vlatko said he was thrilled to have MAC Copper’s support for the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
