Local dancer selected to perform with the state’s best

Cobar High School student Bella Coughlan, pictured with teacher Alex Hernando, has been selected as part of the NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

Cobar High School (CHS) Year 11 student Bella Coughlan has been selected to join the 2018 NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

16 year old Bella was chosen for one of the 30 places available from a short list of 117 dancers.

Originally 800 students from 121 schools across the state participated in the selection program during Term 1.

Tutors from the Bangarra Dance theatre and The Arts Unit travelled to centres across NSW conducting Aboriginal Secondary Dance Workshops.

CHS PD/H/PE teacher Alex Hernando said all six of the Cobar High School students who attended the local workshop in Dubbo were short listed, with Bella being selected to be a part of the 2018 Company.

“Cobar High school is proud of Bella and the opportunity she has been provided through her selection in the 2018 NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company,” Ms Hernando said.

“She has attended the workshop in previous years and has been short listed several times.

“It is wonderful to see her hard work pay off.

“She is a very talented dancer.”

Bella will now attend rehearsals in Sydney, working with Bangarra Dance Company and the NSW Arts Unit, and perform at the prestigious State Dance Festival and in Schools Spectacular as a featured dance group.
