Local authors to speak at Night for our Lost Miners

The Lodes of Gold book, written by former residents and geologists, Craig and Therese Stegman, details a rich pictorial history of mining in the Cobar Goldfields. The book’s authors have been invited as guest speakers for this year’s Night for our Lost Miners.

The authors of Cobar’s Lodes of Gold book, former local residents Craig and Therese Stegman, have been invited as guest speakers for this year’s Night for our Lost Miners event.

The Night for our Lost Miners memorial event pays tribute to Cobar’s lost miners and is now commemorated each year as part of Cobar’s Festival of the Miner’s Ghost activities.

Craig and Therese were thrilled with the invitation and are excited about returning to Cobar next month.

The pair are both trained geologists and met in Cobar in 1988 when they were working for a short time at the CSA Mine.

They headed in different directions but later married in 1990.

They returned to Cobar in 1995 with Craig working at the Peak Gold Mine and Therese at Elura with Pasminco.

Therese said they have many fond memories of Cobar where they lived for nearly nine years, started their family, made lifelong friends and they were also actively involved in much of the modern history of the Cobar mines.

Their parting gift to the community was Lodes of Gold which tells the story of Cobar’s rich mining heritage.
