Local author entertains Cobar VIEW Club members

VIEW Club members Kate Winders, Margaret Potter and Anna Vlatko (at far right) welcomed author and former Cobar girl, Jamelle Wells, as the club’s guest speaker to last week’s meeting. Ms Wells spoke about her career as a journalist/court reporter and her book, The Court Reporter.

Cobar VIEW Club held a very successful luncheon meeting last Tuesday with a good number (34) of ladies in attendance.

This month members heard from a very special guest speaker and former local resident, Jamelle Wells, who gave a talk about
her recently published book, The Court Reporter.

The audience also had the opportunity to purchase a signed book on the day by Jamelle who is a journalist reporter for ABC television and ABC Radio.

It was most interesting day for all, and was greatly appreciated by members.

Jamelle mentioned that her mother Cecile Wells (an original Cobar VIEW Club member) had very much enjoyed her time in the club and appreciated all of the stage show and theatre trips taken with the club when Jean Poulter had the travel business in town.

As part of the meeting, a badge presentation was made by president Margaret Potter to new member Faye Ansin and to returning member Maureen Griffiths.

In general business a Bring and Buy fundraiser table was held; a future date was set for the club’s Christmas function; and substantial donations were discussed and sent on to the club’s charity, The Smith Family.

These donations are sent periodically throughout the year.

The meeting’s raffle winner was guest Dianne Shanahan and the lucky door prize went to Kaye Saddler.

The club’s luncheon meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month and further information about the club’s activities can be obtained from any committee member.—contributed
