Kubby House Child Care Centre has welcomed a familiar face in Lauren Williams as their new director.

Lauren and her family have lived in Cobar for almost six years and, in between raising her young family, she’s previously worked in community-run childcare centres in Castlemaine (Victoria), Darwin and Adelaide.

“I prefer community-run child care centres as the focus is a lot more about the staff, the children and the families, and not so much about the money,” Lauren said.

“I like working with people and love working with children and also building a connection with the families.”

Lauren recently took over the role from Whitney Sheard who is now on maternity leave.

It’s a permanent position and she’ll be working four days a week at the centre overseeing seven staff and 29 children aged from six weeks up to school age.

She’ll also look after the centre’s programming, will act as the educational leader for the staff who are studying and take care of the administration side of things.

“My aim is to support and build the team, encourage good communication, work with the committee and be an advocate for the staff.”

Kubby House volunteer management committee secretary Tanya Gilbert said they were excited to have Lauren on board.

“Lauren holds a Diploma in Children’s Services and has over 17 years experience working in child care,” Tanya said.

“She has a lot of great ideas and a fresh, mature outlook to bring to our centre.

“Lauren has been a huge part of the Cobar community during her time in Cobar to date and we know her ongoing contribution and dedication to the local community are wonderful aspects to have in a director,” she said.

“We look forward to working closely to continue to improve our centre for the benefit of the children, parents and committee.”
