Howie’s Hombres too good for CSA

The weekend’s senior cricket competition featured two Twenty20 games. (It should have been three but the match out at Tilpa was a forfeit by Wyatt’s Whackers.)

Howie’s Hombres defeated CSA in the Friday night game under lights at Ward Oval while Bushies accounted for Golfie in their match on Saturday, also played under lights at Ward Oval.

Batting first, CSA made 9/131 from their 20 overs in Friday’s game.

Tarun Bheemireddy (39), Tom McKenna (31) and Justin Kelly (22 not out) top scored for CSA.

Chris Gilbert, with excellent figures of 2/1, Aaron Davey (2/6) and Adam Doherty (2/24) were the best of the Hombres bowlers.

In reply, Hombres were cruising at 0/104 after 10 overs.

When Roger Mitchell fell for 48 and Chris Gilbert retired on 56 runs, Hombres then had a mini batting collapse as they lost four wickets for just 16 runs.

However, Hombres regathered and passed the required total with four overs remaining and went on to post 8/155 runs.

Tadgh Waugh was the best of the bowlers taking 3/5.

The reigning Twenty20 champions, Bushies, played their first game of the season
on Saturday night and were surprisingly pushed all the way by an understrength Golfie side.

Golfie batted first and made 4/121 from their 20 overs thanks to some big hitting by Joel Mawhinney.

Golfie had been struggling to post a defendable total before Mawhinney came to the crease. Mawhinney then blasted four sixers on his way to top-scoring with 50 not out.

Phar Nicholson took 3/27 bowling for Bushies.

In reply, Bushies chased down the required total with five wickets in hand and five overs to spare.

Matt Nicholson (51), Jade Buckman (34) and Stewart Fraser (21) top scored for Bushies.

Anthony Robertson returned the best bowling figures for Golfie taking 2/29.—contributed
