Extreme weather affects cricket games

Twenty20 cricket was the only form of cricket played in the Cobar Senior Cricket competition on the weekend with the Ruthless Toothless, Tilpa and CSA teams all recording wins.

There were no 40 Overs games scheduled for the weekend while a representative game that was to have been played against Bourke on Sunday has been postponed to this coming weekend due the extreme weather conditions.

On Friday night, Ruthless Toothless defeated Bushies by seven wickets.

Bushies were restricted to 7/107 from their 20 overs thanks to some tight bowling from Ryan Urquhart and Jed Noonan as both finished with three wickets each.

Bushies were not able to establish any decent partnerships as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Alec Fraser (19), Shane Martin (19), Mark Fraser (18 not out) and Stuart Fraser (15) top scored for the Bushies.

Ruthless Toothless didn’t make the best of starts to their innings but after losing three early wickets, a 98-run partnership between Tristan Everett (55 not out) and Ryan Urquhart (45) guided their Toothless home.

Ruthless Toothless finished with 3/120 from their 20 overs to claim the win.

On Saturday, Tilpa hosted Golfie with the match cut short to 14 overs each due to the extreme weather. From their 14 overs, Tilpa made 2/121 with Matt Crotty retiring on 51, Fred McClure made 27 and James McClure finished with 26 not out.

In reply, Golfie didn’t lose any wickets however they fell 36 runs short of the target and could only manage 0/86.

Still at the crease was Isaac Kershaw with 41 not out and Adam Buckman with 23 not out.

On Saturday night, CSA pulled off an upset win over Hombres beating them by two wickets.

Hombres made 7/144 from their 20 overs with Jake Harbison top scoring with 46 not out and Dewayne De Vries added 31 to their total.

The wickets for CSA were shared among their bowlers.

CSA’s batting innings was anchored by Tom McKenna (who hit 69 runs off only 36 balls) and Tarun Bheemireddy (with 35 runs).

Surprisingly, no other batsman made it into double figures but, along with 20 extras, CSA finished with 8/151 to claim the win.—contributed
