Jay Egan claimed his 5th successive Cobar Men’s Golf Club Championship title on the weekend blitzing the field of 12 A Grade players to win by seven shots.

Egan finished two under par with a scratch score of 104 for the 27 holes on Day 1 of play on Saturday, which was helped by an eagle on the 10th hole.

Egan however didn’t rate his game on Sunday, but he did do enough to hold on to his seven shot advantage to claim the win.

Runner-up, John Carlaw make a good start to catching Egan over the first nine holes on Sunday morning, and at one stage came to within one shot, however he finished the day with a scratch score of 115 (as did Egan) and had to settle for second place.

Greg Clark, with a score of 272 for the 54 holes, grabbed the win in B Grade relegating Scott Mayne to runner-up on 280.

Mayne had been favoured to win after previously claiming the B Grade title three times.

Paul Kershaw was uncontested for the C Grade title.

The very cold day on Sunday was reflected in all the players scores with none bettering or matching their Saturday scores.

Egan also won the 45 hole Nett competition with Carlaw the runner-up followed by Craig Dillon third and Clark was 4th.

Bill Fugar was Saturday’s 27 Hole Nett winners with Jason Ford the runner-up, while Mayne claimed a win in Sunday’s 27 Hole Nett event with Max Phillips the runner-up.

Nearest the Pin prizes were won on Saturday by: Phillips (3rd hole), Fugar (7th), Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence (8th), Egan (11th) and Dillon (15th) and the Sunday pin winners were Stewart Fraser (3rd), Alec Fraser (7th and 11th), Phillips (8th) and Dillon again on the 15th.
