Divas get the better of Hot Shots in A Grade game

The Divas team finished with a convincing 57-26 win over Hot Shots in Round 4 of the
Cobar Netball Association A Grade competition on Saturday at Ward Oval.

The Senior Women’s Netball competition
resumed on Saturday afternoon at Ward
Oval with Divas and Sharpe Shooters winners
of the two games contested.
Divas finished as convincing 57-26 winners
over Hot Shots in a drama-filled A Grade game
in which two players, one from each team,
suffered ankle injuries.
It was lucky both sides had the benefit of
subs and the match could continue.
Divas started strongly and by the end of the
first break they had a sound 31-10 lead.
Divas continued to hold the upper hand
throughout the match and with some sensational
shooting by Lauren Urquhart, they finished
with a 31 point win.
Urquhart shared in the game’s Best & Fairest
points with team mate, Corinne McLeod.
The B Grade game on Saturday was also a
mostly one-sided affair with Sharpe Shooters
recording a sizeable 49-14 win over Gumnuts.
Gumnuts’ Keetah Richardson and Sharpe
Shooters Jessica McFarlane shared the Sportsmanship
honours.
Pumpettes were also Round 4 winners after
beating JKM 48-30 in a pre-played match earlier
in the week.
That game was also marred by a serious ankle
injury.
JKM were a bit slow getting off the mark in
Wednesday night’s game while Pumpettes
jumped straight into the match and had a 12-5
advantage by the first break.
JKM found their groove in the second quarter
and matched Pumpettes goal for goal but
they were unable to sustain their good form
throughout the second half.
Pumpettes maintained the upper hand in the
game and kept on improving their lead each
quarter to eventually finish with an 18 point
win.
Pumpettes’ Neve Carter and Hayley Walker
shared in the game’s Best & Fairest points with
JKM’s Georgia Boland.
In the other Round 4 scheduled B Grade
game, Real Steel forfeited to Golfie Mystics.
In Round 5 matches to be contested this
week, JKM will play Divas and Pumpettes take
on Hot Shots in A Grade.
In B Grade Golfie Mystics and Sharpe
Shooters will go head to head while Real Steel
will take on Gumnuts.
