Decision made in best interests of the community

Social media blew up over the weekend with many locals (and former locals) offering opinions and comments about the recent temporary closure of the Cobar Vinnies store.

The Cobar Weekly approached the St Vincent de Paul Society (NSW) for a comment on the matter.

“The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW worked faithfully with members and volunteers to bring a fair and timely resolution to the operational issues at the Vinnies Cobar shop,”  the SVDP spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, following non-observance of the Society Code of Conduct, the Society has made the decision that a number of volunteers will no longer be able to volunteer at the Cobar shop.

“At all times the best interests of the people we serve, our members, the community and wider organisation were considered.

“Unfortunately the operating hours of the Vinnies Cobar shop will be disrupted in the short term.

“However, we’re always actively seeking passionate people to join our retail community across the state and encourage anyone aged 16 years and over to apply to become a volunteer,” the spokesperson said.
