Community minded locals recognised

Cobar’s community-minded residents were recognised for their efforts with the 2020 Australia Day awards presented on Sunday as part of Australia Day celebrations at Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. On behalf of the Cobar Cadets Unit 221, Cadet Sergeant Brooklyn Mackay and Captain AAC Colleen Boucher accepted the Bossie Mitchell Services to the Community Award from acting mayor Peter Abbott and ambassador Dr Clio Cresswell. Barry Knight was named the Citizen of the Year for his contribution to the 2019 Festival of the Miners Ghost, the organisation of the Harry Marshall Memorial, the ‘Night for the Lost Miners’, the ‘Miner’s Memorial in the Park’, the Mini-Mining Expo and the installation of the ‘Lost Miners’ plaque at the Cobar cemetery. The Cooinda Home-school Group shared the Young Citizen of the Year award for their volunteering efforts, while Cobar’s Grey Mardi Gras was named Community Event of the Year.
