Cobar recognises Rankin ties on Anzac Day

Cobar’s connection to the HMAS Rankin was reiterated at this year’s Anzac Day commemorations by special guest Captain Stephen Hussey from the Australian Navy, who previously served as Lieutenant Commander of the submarine HMAS Rankin, named after Cobar-born Robert William Rankin, who fought in World War II. Captain Hussey spoke at both the dawn and day time services last Thursday about the efforts of Rankin and his own connection to Cobar, having been part of the Rankin crew granted Freedom of Entry to Cobar in 2004. Captain Hussey is pictured above (centre) leading the march along with returned serviceman and president of the Cobar RSL Sub Branch Ben Hewlett, and former Cobar resident Squadron Leader Sean
Bamforth from the RAAF.
