The Cobar Bowling & Golf Club hosted the NSW Sand Greens Fourball Championships over the weekend with Billy Brigden from Orange teaming up with James Taylor (Warren) to claim the 2025 title.
From the field of 140 golfers, Brigden and Taylor had the best Gross score in the first round on Saturday with 42 points and they then posted a solid 39 points (three under par) on Sunday to claim the overall win with a total of 81 Stableford points.
They finished two points ahead of Narromine’s Craig Duff and Kale Bock (who shot seven under par for the two rounds).
Despite matching the best score in Round 2 on Sunday of 40 Stableford points, local Greg Read and ex-local Craig Dillon (from Singleton) finished back in 8th place with 76 points after shooting a round of 36 on Saturday.
Brothers Jay Egan and Matt Egan, who also recorded 76 over two rounds (37 and 39), finished 9th on a countback.
The winners of the 36-hole nett competition claiming the inaugural Bruce Reynolds Trophy were Andy Lane and Jamie Barrow from Nyngan. They finished with 91 points.
Carlaw and Lawrence were the best of the local golfers in 5th place with 88 points.
Players travelled from across NSW to compete from Yass, Hay, Manildra, Coonamble, Nyngan, Orange, Singleton, Walcha, Brewarrina, Finley, Dubbo, Narromine, Bingara, Trundle, Binalong and Condobolin.
Brigden and Taylor, along with a number of other golfers, praised the great condition of the Cobar course.
