Cobar High welcomes first Wellbeing Officer to the school

Cobar High School has welcomed local resident Wendy Byrne to their staff as the school’s new Wellbeing Officer.
Wendy’s is a new role in the school and is aimed at supporting students and families that require assistance in the demands associated with general school life.
As part of the Student Support Officer (SSOs) staff, Wendy will be working fulltime to help enhance the wellbeing and learning outcomes of students.
School Wellbeing Officers are part of the NSW Government’s $88.4 million initiative to provide every public high school in NSW with a full-time counselling support service on site, as well as a full-time SSO.
SSOs support the implementation of the school’s whole-of-school approach to wellbe-ing, helping students develop social and emo-tional skills through targeted strengths-based programs and strategies that build resilience, coping skills and positive relationships.
They also have a pivotal role in working collaboratively with external and other gov-ernment agencies in their support of students and their families.
