Close crop collects the cash

A barely recognisable, clean shaven Ben Hewlett made an appearance at the Services Club on Saturday night at the RSL Sub Branch of Cobar’s final fundraiser of the year, Benny’s Beard Cutting Night. At the event Mr Hewlett had his long locks and beard shaved off which raised a total of $4,400. Pictured with Mr Hewlett is his fundraising coordinator John de Bruin, who has helped Mr Hewlett and the RSL Sub Branch to raise a total of $25,000 this year to build a World War I memorial in Drummond Park. The committee plans to hold more fundraisers in the future so that the memorial can be extended to include the names of locals who also served in WW2 and all subsequent conflicts.
